About

Hi, I’m Chris Lorensson. I design usable interfaces for web. I moved to Bristol UK from Los Angeles in 2005. Since then I’ve focused on web-based interactions. I’m really a company-man, but I still listen to Nirvana sometimes.

My design background

In 2000, I started designing layouts at a small local print-house. After that I was rocketed into the deep-end when hired into California Charter Academy (The American South-West’s largest charter school) where I was made responsible for building an industry-class design team for one of the company’s new business-development ventures, a record label. There, I spent 3 years in charge of the design team as both Creative Director and Chief Designer. We launched a nationally-distributed music magazine, pushed a band to the top of NYC’s charts and even launched a clothing line.

In 2003, I moved back to LA to fill the Creative Director position at an incredible marketing agency, specialising in political and automotive aftermarket industries. We launched Cadillac cars, did broadcast commercials for Toyo Tyres and helped bring three political representatives where they wanted to go – the top.

Since I moved to Bristol…

I moved to Bristol in November of ’05, and jumped right into freelancing — something I’d been wanting to try for a few years at that point. I began slowly building up a client-base, and eventually ended up stinting at Flourish Direct Marketing on a regular basis, and then served at the amazing usability powerhouse cxpartners as interim Creative Director for a little over 6 months. My time at cxpartners was just the push I needed to dig my heels into usability, accessibility and user interface design.

Currently

I’ve recently finished a contract at Fasthosts as Interaction Designer, and now I’m available for work. Feel free to get in touch with me for any reason.

On an personal level…

I’m a design-geek who loves grids, type and wacky ideas. To paint a picture, imagine a white-blond skateboarder stealing markers to draw the type ‘SK8 OR DIE’ onto the bottom of his skateboard by flashlight at 3am, using a blasphemous amalgamation of the Rockwell and Helvetica fonts. That was me.

But now that I’m all grown up, I spend my time watching films with my wife, riding my bicycle, writing philosophical articles on spirituality, taking pictures, designing t-shirts and running Alleycats.Co when I’m not designing and modifying my Subaru.

My values, and why you’ll like working with me

My years at design agencies have helped me develop a unique, consumer-focused set of work ethics. I don’t charge for ‘intellectual-property’, and I believe that anything I build on your ‘dime’ belongs to you, so you’ll never get locked into anything. I’m always happy to supply you with every username, password and file you want, and I’m available by phone. In short, I can give you expert advice & world-class design — all while making sure you get the most for your money.
